Should I learn on my own or hire a teacher?
A teacher makes it easier to learn. There is a huge amount of information available for the beginner guitarist. The problem is that a beginner has no way of knowing what information is important or what can wait until they become a better player. An experienced guitar teacher knows exactly what the new guitar player needs in order to make the fastest progress.
My approach

The beginning student is first taught simple songs using single notes and chords. You can learn your first open position chords here. These chord patterns develop the ears for rhythm recognition. This rhythm recognition makes it easier for the student to learn how to read music when it is introduced at a later stage. The single note patterns that the student learns in the beginning are the foundation for many of the playing techniques that come later.
I know from experience that the learning process can be difficult. There are many physical requirements to guitar playing. It is this reason why guitar playing cannot be approached in a linear fashion, it does not work that way. Publishers would sell far more Level 2, 3, 4, and 5 books if music was nothing more than walk down a cobblestone path laid out before you.
My teaching philosophy is to show the new student that it is possible to begin playing songs at the first lesson. My only goal with the first lesson is to give them confidence and show them that they can play the guitar.
What will I do as your teacher?
My role as a music instructor is as a guide, coach and mentor. I will guide the student to a musical path that will be rewarding for the student and other members of the family. My job as coach or trainer is to be aware of the next step for the student’s progress and the best way to implement that step.
Frustration with the learning process or in the perception of their own ability or talent is the leading cause of music drop outs. If a student can see continuous improvement and development of their skills, they will stay with a music program for a longer period of time.
What is the teaching process?
• Customized lessons
Every student has different challenges. I customize lesson plans to specifically address those challenges.
• Specific coaching
A coach guides the student to ensure that motor movements are being drilled in a safe and efficient manner.
• Trainer
Trainers know the most efficient methods get the desired result. They work with many people and have the opportunity to observe which techniques work the best. Any theory or technique that does not produce tangible results is discarded.
I have spent twenty five years years studying the guitar and looking for ways to make it easy for beginners to pick it up and start playing.
